Uh-oh you guys. Looks like art thieves might be springing up on Fanart Central again. Just caught someone stealing from Kazzisato, ZipCloudrunner, and another artist who unfortunately I've yet to identify.
So, what exactly am I telling you guys?
Protect your artwork!
Watermarks or signatures make it easier to identify who the original artist is. (The lack of a signature on the other piece is why I cannot find the artist.) It doesn't even have to be a very big signature; most art thieves don't take time to remove such things. If you want to make absolutely sure they can't remove the signature, I suggest:
a) signing as close to the subject as possible in the artwork
b) creating a difficult background and signing
c) signing partially over the subject in the artwork
d) creating a watermark over the artwork (check dA for excellent tutorials on how to make them)
This won't stop art from being stolen, but it WILL help the thieves get caught and help those trying to identify the original artist to find you.
Thanks for reading and keep an eye out of thieves!
