I was groped by Voltaire! Okay, perhaps it was lightly felt up, but still...
For those of you who do not know, Voltaire is not only a French writer from the eighteenth century, but also a goth musician of Cuban descent. I was able to attend a free concert put on by the latter in the basement of a local comic-book and collectibles store; the former... lets just say he hasn't responded positively to making public appearances.
I went in to this not sure what to expect besides hearing a few of Voltaire's songs done live. I was pleased to find out that he can indeed sing well live; also discovered that he is very funny and plays a crowd well.
For an hour Voltaire was kind enough to play us some of his songs and tell a few stories. One song, "The Sexy Data Tango", was played at the, perhaps feigned, ire of my girlfriend; but he also performed the popular "When You're Evil", and the more recent "Zombie Prostitute" with a few amusing edits (this was an all-ages affair, for a not all-ages act)l; the former was partially sung by the audience, he referred to as "Dante's infernal choir". Also performed was "Brains" which was featured in "The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy" on Cartoon Network.
After the concert came the typical autograph and photo session that goes along with these events--not to forget the selling of wares: shirts, Cds and various other "goodies"; his comics were not available (I did mention he was also a graphic artist, didn't I?). But, this being Voltaire, the session was not entirely typical, unless its a common occurrence to be felt up by the person you're getting photographed with; if that's the case, I'm late to the party and I apologize.
But the exact sequence is as follows:
As I, slowly I suppose, made my way over to get a picture taken with Voltaire.
Voltaire: "Come closer." in a tone that was meant to be menacing in a silly manner
Me: as I moved in besides Voltaire, "Should I be afraid?" said sarcastically, though that may not have come through
Voltaire then lightly gropes my ass, very nonchalant.
All-in-all a good experience.
