You know what should be better than romance novels (which are some of the greatest thigns on Earth?) Gay romance novels.
Except they really aren't, at least not in my somewhat limited experience.
I just found a fabulous new author. S.E. Jakes. I bought her first book in a series on a whim, liked it, got the second one, devoured it (just finished it a few minutes ago, actually) and now my mind is whirring, wanting to read more and more and more. ALL THE GAY ROMANCE NOVELS.
Except all I seem to be able to find are the following:
-vampire/werewolfs (eww, no thanks)
- S&M, some form of dominance thing
-lots and lots of sex, with very little plot
That's it. For some reason, m/m authors seem compelled to cram as much sex into their often few pages as possible. I love a good sex scene as much as the next girl. Usually insist upon them, actually, because there is nothing more lame than a fade to black. But I do require my romance novels have some plot and character development beyond "I've just discovered I have a penis, and oh look, it conveniently fits inisde your asshole on repeat."
I've been getting my gay fix in lately with S.E. Jakes and the cute couple from Spartacus, but I am craving more. Any recommendations? Send them my way!
