He's on his way out, out of the door and out of their lives. They are happy together, they don't need him. It was a one time thing, an adventure, some spice to their marriage, nothing big... nothing important. At least that's what he keeps telling himself as he tries to find his clothes.
Good food and good wine was what lead to this, inhibitions were lost and somehow that final line was stepped over. And it was great, wonderful and for once he's slept without nightmares. He would cherish this night for a long time. Hide it away like he's hidden his other treasures, where no one can find them.
He finds his sock under the bed and when he straightens from retrieving it he meets blue eyes. He remembers them when they were almost black, fluttering shut as he thrust into her welcoming heat. Now they are sleepy and sated and he wishes he didn't have to leave.
A hand come around to splay over her stomach, he remembers that hand spreading him, opening him and holding him as he was filled to the brim and caught in the rhythm between them.
Finally he locates his tie, buried under the dress she wore, and then he's ready. Ready to step out.
"What's he doing?" Comes Peter's sleepy voice.
"He thinks he's leaving." She answers, peering at him through lowered lashes.
"Hmph... tell him to stop being an idiot and come back to bed." Peter finally lifts his head and meets Neal's eyes himself, the words might be flippant but the eyes ask, with tentative hope: Stay?
