Yaoi / Yuri Rant

Miss Yaoi: Sarah, you might be able to explain this all to me, but I just do not get it.

So, I hope you all have realized by now that I am a very open minded kinda guy. I am not a homophobic, racist, or otherwise irrationally negative bias kinda person. Now to the point, I just do not get what people like in Yaoi/Yuri. For sake of argument, I really haven't read much Yuri, but I am sure it is more or less the same as Yaoi.

What is it that people really fantasize or go crazy for when you get a Guy/Guy or Girl/Girl pairing? Why do girls like guy/guy and guys girl/girl pairings so much?

This current story, Gravitation for example. Like it is a good mystery, and good drama/romance kinda story. I actually am liking it. However, it would be so much better if Shuichi was a girl. Not only that, they portray him as such, or at the very least make him very feminine.

In almost every piece of these kinda of genres I have read, the relationships seem SO forced just for the sake of having them. They are in no way realistic and just are thrown in there for some kinda of fan fair or something. Yeah, there are guys who like guys and vice versa, but it is like everywhere in Yaoi/Yuri. Every couple is either flagrantly Bi or Homo. Not realistic, more like everything is forced for a fan service.

I try my best to be unbiased and fair to every piece of art and literature. I give everything a chance. I just feel that these stories can be so much more by just making Guy/Girl parings. Instead, they *make* these other pairings simulate a heterosexual relationship.

I have nothing against this kinda writing when it is done right. Just they always seem to be blatantly forced. Maybe someone else can enlighten me here.

Note: Zach, I think my favorite genre and style for a manga is probably mystery/drama/ecchi. Like shōnen is great, but only when a great mystery is involved. Might explain why most other things are hard for me to get into. =x
