Coming home for a week

I'm coming home for Christmas. Sadly, McGill makes us start up again on the 3rd so I'll only be back for one week [Dec. 23-Jan. 1st] so I'll probably be spending most of my time home with family. However, I should get to spend New Year's Eve in Vancouver which brings up a question...

Are there any happenings that I should be aware of this year?
