So since I haven’t posted in years, I thought I’d sum up the past 11 months. Started 2007 out in Waco, TX with Heather, who, by the way, is the most amazing person I’ve ever met :).
Then, back in Miami, at work I was betrayed by two people who I thought were my friends, but apparently they were not.
I spent the next two months on my own traveling out west. I included a small sample of photos I took on the trip. For a complete gallery, they're online at
http://ecography.com/west.htm First stop, Texas. Spent a few days with Heather, then it was westward to New Mexico. Places I visited included Santa Rosa, Pecos National Monument, Santa Fe, Albuquerque, and Sandia Mountain Range.
Next stop, Arizona. Places here included, Canyon de Chelly, Grand Canyon, Flagstaff, and the Lowell Observatory. Side note, since it’s in four states, while in Arizona I stopped by the Four Corners area, mainly to say I’ve been there.
Next, Ventured to the Arizona / Utah border for Monument Valley. A simply amazing place.
Then, onto Nevada. Hi, I’m in Nevada. First stop, was the Hoover Dam. Sadly, it was raining, but nevertheless a sight to see. Then I went to Las Vegas mainly again, to say I’ve been there. Was just curious to see it. I was actually amazed. I ended up watching Penn & Teller perform, then I got to talk to them afterwards. I asked Teller if that was really his voice on the Simpsons, and he said “he’s not kidding, I’m not the first Teller” then assured me it was him. Then I talked to Penn. My god, that guy really is huge. We talked about Bullshit!, literally. I spent 4 days in Vegas just walking around different areas, sight seeing and such. Some of those casinos are just really amazing. I didn’t even get to see all I wanted to see. Then, it was time to continue my journey, but now I would go back east, as I reached my western terminus.
Next stop, Utah. First Utah stop, Zion National Park. All I can say is… wow. I should mention at this point the timing of my journey was perfect as there were very few people vacationing at the time. So, Zion was amazing. I will leave it at that. Next stop, Bryce National Park. Bryce was somewhat of a disappointment, but not due to the park, due to the weather. I got snowed in one day, and only the first 10% of the park was open, the other was closed due to the snow. But, I did see some really neat snow on the hoodoos. Once the snow let up, it was time to go to Moab. Main attraction there, Arches National Park. I must say, definitely on my top 5 of National Parks. The sky was so clear, you could see mountains in Colorado, yet you were in the desert. Some of those rocks there were over 100 feet tall, and the arches were amazing as well.
Now, time to head to Colorado. Let me just say, people from Florida, mainly Miami, should not drive on I-70 in the winter around Vail Pass. Nevertheless, I survived driving the curvy interstate in the snow without dying. So I finally make it to Denver. I’ve been to Denver in the winter and summer, and the summer is definitely the better time to go. I wanted to revisit Rocky Mountain National Park, but couldn’t get there due to a snow storm. I stayed in Denver for a few days, then slowly headed back to Texas. Although, on the way I went 30 minutes out of my way to swing by Oklahoma, again, just to say I’ve been there. I saw a Wal-Mart, and a cow, that was about it.
Went back to Dallas, where I met Heather’s family for the first time. Then to Waco to Heathers place who was now on Spring Break. We drove down to Houston to go to Johnson Space Center. The center was nice, Houston sucks though.
Went back to Waco, then Heather and I flew to Miami. Her first time. I showed her around town, we went to the beach, the Everglades, downtown, the zoo, and elsewhere. Heather went back to school in Waco, and thus, my weeks long endeavor came to an end, sadly.
Fast forward to May, Heather came back to Miami for another visit. I went on another vacation, this time with Heather. We went to a friend’s cabin in the North Carolina mountains. The mountains of NC are really amazing. It was so peaceful and quiet. We stayed there two weeks. Then we went to Williamsburg, Virginia. I wasn’t too impressed. I had been there before, but I don’t remember it being so expensive, and everything was closed at the historical area. Nevertheless, we went back to the cabin in western NC. Then we made a journey through Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas to Texas. Went to a family reunion in the middle of Texas for Heather. It was a nice weekend, got to meet her extended family and such.
Now, my journey home begins. Drove to Orlando, stayed with my grandfather for a few days, then made my way back down to Miami.
Fast forward to August, Heather moved down to Miami, for me :). The past few months have been spent with her.
Although, we have set a deadline for Summer or ’09 to move out of Miami. Where you might ask? You’ll have to ask to find out.
