How to end a working night in an excellent mood

Feb 11, 2007 05:43

This happened yesterday, but I didn't have the time to write about it till now.

A nice night shift: few stories, all of them simple and interesting, and, at the end of it, my colleague arriving early, so that I can leave before the end of my shift.

It's raining. I'm not disturbed: in winter rain makes the temperature rise, and I always bring an umbrella in my rucksack.

I have to take a bus. I usually take 3, but at the 55 terminus there is a bus ready to leave. I decide then to take that, in order to avoid waiting outside.

The doors are all closed, but the driver is inside. He's doing something, he has papers, perhaps he's counting money. I knock on the glass. He doesn't move. I assume he didn't notice me.

Before knocking again, I have a look at the time tables: 55 leaves at 7.30. I cross the street, and look at the 3 time table: it says 7.35. It's 7.25. I think it's not worth waiting 10 minutes under the rain.

I go back to 55 and knock again. And again, the guy inside doesn't stir. The engine is on, although it's not time for the bus to leave yet.

After a short while, he raises his head. He does see me. He knows I'm there. But he won't open the damned door.

7.30. My thought: since my point was not waiting under the rain, and since I did wait under the rain, breathing the air this guy was polluting just to keep himself warm while he didn't give a damn if I froze, I might as well wait a few minutes more and take the bus that brings me home more quickly.

I start to move. At that precise moment the bus leaves. He doesn't even try to open the doors or ask me if I want to get on.

I cross the street, go to the 3 bus stop. 55 comes towards me, and turns. My middle finger is waiting for him, up and triumphant, while I walk past the bus looking elsewhere, expressionless. Behind me, I hear the bus stop. This time, he did notice. He shouts at me, I can't hear what. For a moment, I'm afraid the guy is not completely sane, and he might get violent. I walk further away from him for a few metres. I don't look behind me.

Finally, I hear him leave. In less than five minutes 3 arrives.

Bad girls go everywhere, even home.
