I read the article and it didn't really make sense. The music industry isn't up in arms against file sharing programs because of the means of distribution. It's because they aren't getting a piece of the pie anymore.

How does this relate to gun control? I am against gun control laws too, although I suspect it's for vastly difference reasons from yours.

The music (and movie..noone ever mentions them for some reason, though MGM is the principle name in this suit) is trying to shut down peer-to-peer programs, with their main argument being that while the software wasn't written with the intent of copyright infringement, users are doing that with it. Basically, they're trying to overturn the Sony Betamaxx decision from twenty years ago.

The gun control analogy came from something Cuban said in that article - "software doesn’t steal content, people steal content." It reminds me of the "guns don't kill people, people do" argument.
