live the dream?

no joke
been chasing a dream back the way I came all day long.
in it, I composed a piece of music
one that I finally liked
I played the notes automatically
the electric guitar I was doubled over vibrated tangibly
the nearby amplifier rang with a melody that was satisfying
I heard behind it a low humming
it was a constant stream of unintelligible words
coming from somewhere I couldn’t see
but if I looked away it all might stop
so I let them come out of my mouth as words I recognized
couldn’t place my full attention on them
or I would crush them
concentrated on my fingers I followed the wandering melody in rippling circles
and thought
I’ve done it
this is right
this, I could share
but for the life of me
I cannot recall a single note.
