1. Work is bad today. I can't pay someone because she was never appointed to work in the first place, which is my boss's fault, but of course Boss is out sick because she had surgery last Friday, so I'm screwed. I hope this girl doesn't REALLY need her $75, because she totally isn't getting it.
2. PLUS, I hate when I don't know how to do something, and the person who DOES know how to do it is jerking me around instead of just getting shit done. So fucking annoying.
3. I found out my best friend from the 7th grade until pretty much I moved to Texas and we lost touch just had a baby. o.0
4. Al Franken won his senate seat, finally!! Which means that the Democrats have a super-majority. Except not really, because it's doubtful Ted Kennedy will ever return to vote in the senate, and that other guy, the 90-year-old dude, is probably not going back, either. Senators HAVE to be elected, so it might be a long while before we have new ones from Massachusetts and wherever that other old dude is from. Sigh.
5. Still, what is UP with no movement on DADT and DOMA? I know there's a lot of stuff going on with the collapse of the global economy and the elections in Iran and trying to push through health care reform and all that, but STILL. This is getting ridiculous.
6. One of the stories on This American Life this week was about Lindy England, the reservist from the Abu Ghraib torture pictures. It was so interesting, because this is a woman who took the fall for basically the entirety of Bush's torture regime, even though her role in the scandal was tiny and the entire picture debacle was basically a red herring to distract the world from what was actually going on in Abu Ghraib--torture so horrible it sometimes ended in death.
Detainees were shot dead at Abu Ghraib. One man was tortured in a shower so horribly and for so long that he died, whether from wounds or from shock, we don't know. In the interview, Lindy talks about how she was an admin, in-processing detainees, and how she could hear them screaming at night during CIA interrogations. Her lover, also a reservist and a former marine, was a guard, and he was the one taking all the pictures, because he wanted proof of his war experience after coming back from the Gulf War and being faced with nothing but doubters and detractors to his stories.
The crazy thing about Lindy England is that she doesn't seem to understand that she was the fall guy for the torture regime at Abu Ghraib. She sees it as a personal failing on her part, because she was in love with the ex-marine guard and she just did whatever he told her to. She blames herself for falling in love with this fucktard, basically; she says if she hadn't, she'd never have been on the cell block at all, and none of this would've happened. But by "this" she means the pictures of the humiliation. The torture? She never questioned it.
7. Today, if I have time this afternoon, I'm going to go through all my fic and add warnings. I use warnings in communities, but not on my actual journal, and that's not good. People coming from rec links will never see those warnings. So yeah, need to do that. But--question. I think the thing I will need to warn for the most is like... depictions of mental illness. Is there some standard warning for that? I can't even think of how to word it.
8. Saw Britney's new video for 'Radar.' I am kind of EH about it. On the one hand, she looks AMAZING. On the other hand, it's pretty boring. It's no 'If U Seek Amy.' In fact, let's just pause a moment to remember how amazing that video is:

10. SYTYCD tonight. It better not suck again.
