Best Fic Ever

Mar 11, 2009 08:45

So yesterday, I asked you all to think about the best piece of fanfiction you have ever read. This is not necessarily your FAVORITE, although I suppose it could be. I want you to consider: which fanfic was so well-done that you were just stunned by its brilliance? Which one made you feel something deeper than the usual? Which one made you think ( Read more... )

No change from earlier...but I do agree with some of what you said. Brilliant writing. And to be honest, it was between that and Descent. So...

I think Justin is a little more Justiny in Descent, but it really doesn't even matter. Those two fics... I mean, it's really just a bonus that it's JuC. They could be about Bill Random and Mike Whoever, and I would still love them.

I resent that there's no Making scene in Descent, though :P

Those two stories are just flat out great writing. Yeah, it would have been great to have just that much more of Descent. (Like when they are both vampires and have hot vampire sex, that would have been AWESOME).

YES. I wanted the hot vampire sex :P Especially after JC describes how much better it is than normal people sex.

I always reread TWYKH at Christmastime. I think because the first time I read it was at Christmas, and I got to the part where it's near Christmas in the story and Justin goes out to the cabin to take JC the documents, and I remember just... sobbing. Oh man. How embarrassing! But it was so emotional :P

I don't have anything to contribute to the poll but I can't wait to see the list!

If you want to pimp it out to your flist, that would be a fabulous contribution. I think you have fandoms on yours that I lack.

We can pimp?
Cause I think it's a fantastic idea for a meme and I'd like some of my friends to answer. :p

Yes please! I want as many people to answer as possible. I just think it's going to be really interesting to see what people say.

The Way You Know Him.. It's the only fan fic that makes me cry every time I read it. No JuC story can match that one. Descent is a very, very close second. August makes me cry every time.

Wait, which one is August? I'm sure I've read it, but it's hard for me to remember titles and names.

It's funny, I resisted TWYKH and Descent both for a very long time. And then when I finally read them, it was like... overwhelming. I reread them every once in a while and just fall in love all over again. And they're really not even the sort of fic I usually enjoy, but there's something completely undeniable about them!

:P Hey, I am of the opinion that our brains don't always obey us. They recognize something and we are slaves to that, we just have to go along with it and hope we survive the ride! I am a David Lynch fan, so I know exactly what you mean.

Oy, wank. I mean, cultural appropriation is bad, but I had to read Levi Strauss in college so any fic I read can't be as bad as that.

Levi-Strauss was big into calling everyone who wasn't white "savages". I had to quit reading him, I found it so offensive.

Cultural appropriation IS interesting on some level. Every time we write slash, we are culturally appropriating. (Unless we are gay men.) There are some instance where the appropriation is just out of control, but on the other hand, if we never tried to experience other cultures different from our own, it would be a very sad, insulated world.
