year in fic meme

I know everyone is doing this and y'all are probably pretty sick of it already, but I have a massive hangover and I need to think about fandom right now. It is my happy place.

Fic what I posted this year:

[ The Politicos (This Machine Kills Fascists)] // popslash, lambs. An AU in which NSYNC are staffers on Capitol Hill, written for SeSa 2006. This was my first big attempt at popslash.

[ Found My Salvation in Starbucks] // SPN, SPN RPS. Jensen gets Left Behind. Literally.

[ Songs About LA] // popslash, trickyfish. My first real attempt at Chris.

[ AU You: Dopplegangland] // popslash, raptureverse. It's the Rapture, there are many copies, and they have a plan. Or something.

[ Wifey] // CW RPS, J2. A timestamp for babyofthegroup's wonderful J2 wedding fic, With This Ring.

[ Now Everybody Dance] // popslash, J-Fed. And that pretty much sums it up.

[ Blood and Thunder, A Cha-Cha Challenge] // Bring It On, Missy/Torrence. Written for the femslash07 challenge. Also, a roller derby AU.

[ JC Chasez and the Magical Amulet of Doom] // popslash, JuC. Written for JuC Day, in which JC loses his memory.

[ Zoology 101] // popslash, CW RPS, RPF. It's sort of Bassez? JC is a zookeeper of celebrities.

[ By Appointment Only] // popslash, CW RPS crossover. Jensen and Jared are hookers.

[ Faggots Are Funny (the Adventures of A Reluctant Freestyle Poptart, Saving the World from Cylons and Single-Handedly Stopping Genocide)] // popslash, JC/Eminem. Written for the 2007 popslash remix challenge.

[ Chronologistics (the Be-Excellent-to-Each-Other-or-the-Army-of-the-Twelve-Monkeys-Will-Send-Bruce-Willis-to-Kick-Your-Ass Extended FutureSex/LoveMix)] // popslash, bassez. Written for rpf_remix.

[ Last Stop: Chicagoland] // CW RPS, J2. Jensen and Jared are married with kids. Written for the J2 Big Bang Challenge.

[ The One Where Justin Gets Kidnapped by Marilyn Manson and Then They Go to the Spa] // popslash, gen. Sort of. Marilyn Manson kidnaps Justin and the rest of NSYNC has to rescue him.

[Fake It Till You Make It] // popslash, bassez. Written for sparklyglee.

[ Manny and the Beast] // CW RPS, J2. Jared is Jensen's nanny! Written for spn_harlequin.

[ Ready to Wear] // CW RPS, popslash. Otherwise known as the Mannequin AU.

[ I'm Invincible, So Are You] // popslash, JuC. Written for the 2007 JuC Swap.

[ The 5-0 Grind] // popslash, TrickC. Written for autumnchallenge.

[ You, Robot] // JC/robot. Written for autumnchallenge.

[ What Color Is Your Parachute: A Practical Manual] // popslash, JC-centric. JC goes to therapy.

[ The Young Lesbians League of America United Against Zombies and Other Tales from Chris's Basement] // popslash, lambs. Written to test MtYG.

And I wrote two fics for this year's MtYG, which shall (for the moment) remain nameless. So that's, um, 24 fics, not including drabbles, and counting Chicagoland and Ready to Wear as one entity each. Jesus Christ, that's a lot of fic.

Favorite story this year (of my own): Oh god, this is hard. I guess Chicagoland? But I really love one of the ones I wrote for MtYG this year, and I'm Invincible, So Are You. But Chicagoland has a very special place in my heart.

My best story this year:: I think probably... What Color Is Your Parachute. It's a much more personal story than I normally write, and I think it's my best. It's the only one that feels real to me.

Most popular story this year, in my opinion:: For SURE, Chicagoland. Although people really loved Manny and the Beast as well, for some reason. But Chicagoland is by far the most comments I have ever received on a fic, as well as the best feedback I've ever gotten, period. It wasn't just, "OMG I love this!" People wrote me long, lovely feedback and it definitely feels like Chicagoland touched people in a way that most of my fic doesn't.

Most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Aside from one of my MtYG fics from this year, which I can't discuss, I'm going to have to go with 'I'm Invincible, So Are You.' I wasn't sure that I could even write this fic, and then it just sort of streamed out of me fully formed. I really love it, and for me it's sort of my ultimate JuC moment.

Most fun story: Oh man, I have a lot of fun stories! I think probably 'The One Where Justin Gets Kidnapped...' Because YES.

Sexiest story:: Oh god, I suck at sex. Um, let's see. I guess Chicagoland? That at least HAS sex in it...

Single sexiest moment: Erm. From Chicagoland:

Jared wakes up slow, the sun bright in his eyes and hot on his skin, Jensen half on top of him, both of them sweaty and sticky and kind of gross. It doesn't stop him from brushing his palm down Jensen's back, between his legs to touch him, still wet and open from the night before. It's early still, pretty early, and the girls won't be back for a couple hours yet. They have time.

This is what Jared tells himself when he pushes a finger inside Jensen, slow, slow, so he doesn't wake up, but his breath hitches and his hips stutter a little. His dick is hard and pressing against Jared's hip, and it's pretty nice. It's pretty wow, he thinks, and pushes in a little more.

But the angle's all wrong, he can't get far enough in so he kisses Jensen instead, kisses him awake, fingerfucks him slow and teasing until Jensen pulls Jared's hand away with a little moan and climbs on top of him instead, straddles him and sinks down just like that. It's a little dry and tight, but Jensen's making these little noises and grinding down, running one hand over his chest and jacking himself slow and easy with the other. It's almost a surprise when Jared comes. Jensen's just so tight around him and Jared never really lasts long when he's watching Jensen touch himself, but it's good, so good. It's even better when Jensen comes a second later, somehow gets even tighter around Jared's dick, comes shuddering and hot on Jared's stomach before he pulls off slow and leans down to lick Jared clean.

They shower after and it's nice, it's always nice when they have time like this. Jensen can't seem to stop touching him. Jared's dick twitches like he maybe wants to get hard again, but he's pretty sure that's not going to happen. He's sore, even, thinks Jensen is probably a lot more sore. They finish washing and Jensen leans against him from behind, wraps one arm around his chest and the other across his hips, rests his cheek against Jared's shoulder. He squeezes tight and he's shaking a little, Jared thinks, but when he tries to turn around, Jensen won't let him, just tightens his arms and breathes into the back of his neck.

“Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: Um, for SURE, 'Zoology: 101.' For those of you who maybe skipped this fic because of the crazy, JC is a zookeeper, and various celebrities are animals in the zoo. But not really. It's a metaphor. 'Now Everybody Dance' is pretty fucked up, too, but mostly that's the pairing (J-Fed, eeek), for which I blame azewewish and for which she STILL owes me clone fic.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Definitely either 'Songs About LA' or 'What Color Is Your Parachute' re: Chris and JC, respectively. I was pretty terrified to write Chris for the first time, and it was almost scary going into his head, where I imagined a whole lot of bitterness (and was probably right about that). Same with Parachute, only in that case it was JC's head I was trying to explore, and ended up kind of exploring myself, if that makes sense. Weirdly, both fics are really about them coming to terms with themselves, who they are in the world, and how that relates to Justin. I think more than anything it changed my perception of Justin, writing those fics. I tried to view him as realistically as possible, and the prospect was pretty frightening.

Easiest story to write: Chicagoland, again. Or maybe 'By Appointment Only.' They both just sort of appeared fully-formed in my head, and all I really needed to do was type that shit out. Chicagoland subsequently went through several drafts and several pairs of eyes, but the initial writing of it I think took about a week. Once I started, I just couldn't seem to stop.

Hardest story to write:: 'Faggots Are Funny'. Because runzu writes some crazy-ass pairings and choosing the fic to remix was definitely the hardest part for me. And it's sheer crack, but not in the effortless way that 'Zoology: 101' is. EEk.

Biggest disappointment: Probably 'Manny and the Beast.' I know people love that fic, but I just can't connect with it at all. It's like I didn't even write it. It feels so thrown together to me, not thought out in the way that I usually like to write. But I was so burned out on J2 when I wrote this and the only J2 I could really think about was Chicagoland, so it just, well. It took forever and there was a lot of flip-floppings and startings over. Blech.

Biggest surprise: 'Parachute', both because I didn't realize that's what I was going to write, and also because people actually seemed to appreciate it for what it is.

Most telling story: Parachute again. At least, the most telling as far as my mental state. If we're talking how I feel about fandom, hmmm. Chicagoland definitely ranks. withdiamonds talks about how her SeSa this year felt like a love letter to fandom, and that's what Chicagoland was for me and J2. My ultimate love letter. I will never be as in love with them as I was in that fic.

This year's theme and the story that demonstrates it most: I like to think that this year's theme for me is acceptance. Learning to love yourself and your place in the world; striving to make things better, of course, but being able to let go of the things that hurt you in the past. And my MtYG fic from this year definitely represents that best, but since I can't discuss it, I really think any one of my fics that's not total crack would do it. I write about JC and from JC's POV so much because I relate best to him, alien brain and all. And I think in canon, in his real life, this is a theme he's had to hash out for himself this year. I've just been doing it through fic.

Amount of fic that lurks, unposted, on your hard drive and why: I only have two WIPs, and I will be finishing both of them at some point. One is the Jensen-is-a-governess fic, which I love and will be finished, fucked up gender stuff and all. The other one is a popslash AU based on 'Gone' that I think will be really fun.

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?: Jesus... MORE. I wrote so much fic, it is pretty ridiculous. And I blame all of you, for giving me ideas.

Did you take any writing risks this year? (unexpected pairings, etc.) What did you learn from them?: I wrote popslash in a serious way, which was a huge risk for me. Chicagoland was also a huge risk because it's so different from the other things I had written in CW RPS. It's a very serious fic and an attempt to write about something that I ultimately know nothing about, since I've never had a functional relationship and I hate kids. I was terrified to post it because I wasn't sure what people's reactions would be, if they would hate it or what. It wasn't my usual cracktastic style and I had a lot of agonizing moments of not wanting to put it out there for people to read and criticize and so on, because I love it so so much.

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?: Yes! I want to write more genderfuckery, for sure, and JOSHLYNN. I want to write another serious epic that feels real and perfect to me the way that Chicagoland does. I want to write more Chicagoland, actually. I'm at the mercy of my inspiration, though, so whatever my brain comes up with, I just want to put it down as best I can translate from my head.

Whew. THE END.
