Dear Mother,

Your last letter came today and I liked it very much. On Wednesday May 30 which was Memorial Day and I didn't have any school I went down to the beach to stay all day. I went down about 8:30 and came home at about 5. Later in the afternoon about 3:30 Cleo and Gaylord came down to the beach and when they went home at 5 I went with them . . . I am going to do the same thing tomorrow. Lena Austin said she was going to be on the beach too and would meet me. Mrs. Austin and her friend . . . have an apartment down at the beach. I certainly like it down on the beach. Yes we know about the Chicago fire. It was in our papers the same day it was in yours. We have been reading you have been having a bad dry spell and in fact all over the world. Tonight it's raining and I said the sky looked just like it is in Illinois before a rain. And Grandma says that she'd bet the Illinoisans would be glad to see a sky like that.

Your Loving son,
Harold
