my dog.....

shes a natural born hunter. i have seen the way how she hunts, her ears flat down to her skull, her legs moved smoothly, and soundlessly, her sharp eyes concentrated on her prey. everytime the prey stood up and sees her, she freezes until the head is again lowered back onto the ground and munch on whatever its eating in the first place. once she gets close or the prey catches a whiff of her and bolt, then she give chase. A flat out sprint like a cheetah out in the savannah.

everyday, her "prey" manages to escape but today she turned the table. It was so unfortunate.

a squirrel paid its own life

unlike when a toad, rabbits, squirrels, and birds(most were lucky) to be her prey to escape with their lives

how did it happen?

i was in the kitchen with my mom talking, while the dog whose name is Katie was outside minding her stuff like what dogs would do. the next thing i know was that my mom told me that she heard something scream outside. She was like "Katie has something, what does she have?" i took one look outside behind me out the window, and there, out in the window seeing her standing in front of a bushy tailed creature laying down. it came to realization, she CAUGHT a squirrel.

i screamed to mom, "its a squirrel! Katie caught it!"and dashed outside, with mom following from the rear. I grabbed Katie on her collar and pulled her back away from the squirrel. All riddled up she was, bouncing against my hold and straining to get back to the squirrel to sniff. The squirrel stayed there with her nose and paws in the air trying to swat the dog away. Once it moved, i knew it was injured, couldnt move both of its back legs and seeing around six bite marks on its back. i put the dog back in the house n came outside to check it again, it could move its left back leg but not the right. mom came to join me to check the animal, once mom came close from where i was, it tried to dash up into the tree, it could only make it to my height and moved around the tree trunk trying to get out of my sight, then froze in position. i felt bad for the animal and left it alone. once i came back in the house and looked back, it fell off the tree backwards onto the ground and didnt move, except for its ribs and sides from breathing. I knew immediately that it wouldnt last the night, either die from heart attack, shock, internal injuries or the crows finishing up the kill.
My aunt came to my house to say goodbye to me because i was headed to rochy tomorrow, first stopping in michigan. I told her what happened and then i checked the animal, it didnt move or flinch when i poked it with the stick, i knew it was gone. Barely thirty minutes from the attack.

my sister called animal control while it was still alive to take it away. they didnt call back till later when it died, they will come back tomorrow to take it away and test it for rabies. I checked katie, no bite marks anywhere.

RIP squirrel

To katie, its all a game and she didnt mean to hurt and kill the squirrel. she loves the game of cat and mouse. once she catches something she would carry it in her mouth proudly and then let it go. The squirrel got the worst injuries from the unmeantful bite. It probably snapped the animal's back since the bite was on the back of the animal below it front legs, in the middle and down to it back legs. try to picture it. thats how bad the bite was. but there was no blood drawn
