That felt like the shortest summer ever... probably because I was actually doing stuff most of the time. Man I need to update more often.
1. AP Music Theory - Glover (Easy class)
2. Adv Band - Kraft (BS class)
3. US Government - Ponsi (Easy class)
4. AP Psychology - Hui (BS class)
5. AP English - Allen (Hard class ><)
6. Finite - Lau (BS class)
7. Marching Band - Kraft (Nonexistant class)
Yep, not exactly the most intensive schedule in the world. A whole morning of sleep, then lunch and English, then another period to relax before falling asleep again in the parade formation. I'll need the energy for college apps ><.
Got back from DC late Sunday (uhh last Sunday). There was a 90% chance I wouldn't be involved in any business (despite its being a business trip) but thanks to Murphy's Laws, 90% is never a very good chance. Well, ok it wasn't strictly business, but one of the other directors thought since I was there anyway, might as well have me meet some people. >< Security guy gave me a strange look as I was going through too... do I really look that young? Lack of tourists surprised me a bit; it's gotta be the only public building in DC not swarming with them (though IIRC it's supposed to have tours too... wierd). Wish I could've kept the passcard though, would make a nice souvenir.
Got back, only to get stuck in (Woot...) band camp 2007! At least it's not so dull this year, since the freshmen are marching! 2 of em fainted one day (a flute and a clarinet? Cmon those are the two lightest instruments, save for piccolo). Being section leader this year fails... Hearing each person individually yielded a variety of interesting results, and I don't mean interesting in a good way. To cap it off George, Steven, Alex, Randy, and Justin all came to visit aka laugh at us... bastards. Oh well at least the music itself is a bit more better than last year's... plus this year's allstate honor band audition piece sounds great... ok the recording does, I still have some work to put into it... ><
So much to do these next few months... SAT retake, then college apps after that. Flipped through MIT and Caltech apps (which they took the leisure of sending physical copies to me... convenient), they don't look too bad. I need a language/social science/arts teacher letter of rec though... Waller's going to AWOL and Belotti wasn't exactly my favorite teacher, which leaves me with Bird or Evans from soph year (neither taught much TBH), Feng from frosh (first teacher that owned my valedictorianship? *Shudders), or Kraft (Ok she's had me for a 3 yrs and 6 classes now, but her rec might not count for as much as a teacher of an actual class, and I'm afraid of the snide insinuations she could slip in there...). And then there's the issue of the new UC essays. I'm getting all sorts of suggestions as to how the word count distribution should be, traditionally it's 600-200-200 but with 2 essays some people say 500-500, others 600-400, still others 750-250, and pretty much everything in between. Still haven't decided what other schools to apply to yet besides UCs, MIT, and Caltech... could do UIUC but I don't really like the idea of going to an out-of-state public. Stanford's a possibility but I'm hearing more and more crap about it from contacts in there, even more than from Cal if that's believable. I'm also thinking maybe a couple Ivy's, but then I'll have to do hard sciences or math, not a real problem but it doesn't seem as comfortable to me as engineering. And I absolutely refuse to go into med or law or any "wen ke". Sigh so many choices, so little time. =/
By the way, met a new guy at work today. Former physics olympiad gold medalist, Yale PhD. Guess his job.
