I was just out on my back deck staring up at the incredible display of northern lights just now. They were so brilliant and dancing and flickering blue and green and even a little red and covered the entire northern half of the cloudless night sky. Living north of the forty-nineth parallel may have it's disadvantages--six months of snow and cold, short days as far as daylight is concerned in the fall and winter, etc.,--but there is an untamed natural beauty here that reminds me just how incredibly amazing our planet is. The coyotes are yipping in the distance and the loons that decided to stop for the night on the nearby pond are calling to each other in their hauntingly beautiful way. Soon they'll be heading south with the geese. Yup, just when I feel like giving up on the world I get to experience this and I get a fresh gust of wind in my sails again. Now I'm off to bed.
