THE WATCHER
ALL TV, ALL THE TIME

Why keep 'will they or won't they' couples apart? Thoughts from half of hot 'NCIS' couple Now, I'm not going to lie to you (though I am working on a story about "Lie to Me," but I digress).
Truthfully, I don't watch "NCIS" every week, though apparently much of the rest of the country does.
Tiva But when I do watch the CBS show, it's hard not to enjoy the chemistry between investigators Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) and Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly). Yet when it comes to that couple, "NCIS" producers seem to be following the post-"Moonlighting" rule: That if a couple gets together, all chemistry and momentum between them is lost.
I don't think that has to be the case.
What I don't get is, why does everyone point to the example of a show that is decades old and assume that that's the only example that matters? Why not look to, say, "The Office," which has not been derailed by Jim and Pam getting together? In fact, as their relationship has gotten richer and more satisfying, it's made the characters more interesting and it's even been the source of solid comedy as well.
It makes me grind my teeth with frustration that TV writers and producers are so averse to putting will-they-or-won't-they couples together. And I'm not the only one who'd like to see some kind of "Tiva" resolution.
Cote de Pablo, whom I spoke to at a CBS party Monday night, said she would like to see some kind of progress -- in either direction.
"There's a part of me that's sick of it too," de Pablo said. "I wish the writers would just make it easy for us and just say, 'You know, go into the elevator and kiss passionately.' Or, [have us say] say, 'I don't like you.'"
"They keep this mystery," she said. "And I think they keep it because it works."
I said I thought it was possible to get a couple together and still have interesting tension, and she said, "I am completely, 100 percent with you. There's a part of me that would love that. Because Michael's a hottie."
There will be more of that amusingly antagonistic Tiva love-hate this season, but the writers plan to stick with the "take it slow" policy," de Pablo said.
"But I've always thought that, deep inside, Tony loves Ziva and Ziva loves Tony, but she's almost ashamed of saying it because he's so stupid. In the best of ways," she said with a laugh. "That personal that he comes out with, that frat boy thing -- he's hiding constantly from the truth. It's just a big facade and she sees right through it."
She said that we shouldn't expect Tony and Ziva resolution any time soon, but there's "other kinds of resolution" at the start of the season. Dun-dun-dun!

Ah, yes, the perfect basis for solid or even semi-solid relationship - lack of respect in the pairing along with a distinct lack of understanding and insight. For some reason I keep hearing: 'Vice President Ted Matthews' saying, " all just a big facade [mispronounced fah-kade ]".
Interesting how Michael is not in that camp... he's stated over and over he doesn't want NCIS to suffer Moonlighting syndrome and jump the shark!
good gawd someone needs to stuff a sock in Cote's mouth... If she truly feels this way about TIVA and having her character and Michael's in an intimate relationship because she feels Michael is a "hottie" then any respect I might have had for her - beyond however much I dislike her character - has now gone right out the window. And if she's been coached to say these things - then whoever is doing the coaching needs to be fired - it truly does not paint TIVA positively. "he's so stupid" "he's hiding constantly from the truth" blech *cough* *cough* *cough* *gag* - sorry about that I just threw up in my mouth a little... actually make that alot!
