*blushing* thank you for you kind words - sometimes when I'm writing - I can tell when things are working beautifully and sometimes it just seems to get bogged down - the first section of this story flew out of the muse - the last bits just came out in dribs and drabs and I was so damned frustrated... sigh - you have no idea how heartening it is to find that people are really enjoying it [despite writing fanfic for years and despite understanding that I really must write for myself - it is a scary thing to offer up my babies for public consumption 8-)]
I personally love stories that when based on or around an actual episode weave in the 'real' with the fiction so I try my best to make it all work - I had one reader (of part 01) that disliked my portrayal of Sumner - but honestly this is the way I perceived him - he's a good commander in a crisis but he's a hard-nosed marine who has established expectations and it would take the equivalent of a nuclear explosion to get him to shift his views - even if the facts are staring him in the face (or biting him in the ass or perhaps sucking him dry with a feeding hand)
again thank you for your kind words and I'm really glad you enjoyed this
