For some reason, I could never quite imagine Holmes and Watson being intimate while still keeping things in-character, but this. is. Genius.
It's so perfect that John would secretly crave the danger of submitting himself to Sherlock, and so right that Sherlock would warn him he was playing with fire...but the question is, was he warning him out of genuine concern, or because he unquestionably knew that reminding John of the possible dangers of putting himself entirely at the mercy of a sociopathic control freak was exactly the sort of thing that would make John's libido go through the roof? Possibly the most delicious thing about the character is that we'll probably never know, and John definitely won't. Plus, the sweetness of John realizing that Sherlock has never had anyone trust him - and the bravery of his willingness to be the first one to give him that gift - is utterly adorable and heartbreaking.
I would love to see more of this...perhaps where Sherlock introduces some mind games, and actually gives John just a tiny taste of the danger - the real, psychological danger - that he only hints at here. Testing his boundaries and pushing him, but always knowing exactly when to pull back.
tl;dr - UNF. *memories and recs*

You put into words what I love about this pairing. They're so dysfunctional and at least Sherlock knows how to manipulate John, though he's frequently surprised that John's letting him, even likes him for putting him in danger.
