My daughter keeps her Nook in her bag and places it in a cabinet at work to keep up and out of the way of children. Yesterday someone put a heavy purse or bag on top of hers and her Nook was Damaged. She did not have it in the cover that she normally uses ( Read more... )

I bought my daughter a Kindle last September. She got one of the special covers that clips into the side of the Kindle.

In January, she started to complain that the Kindle would randomly restart and she would lose her place. I lent her mind briefly and she couldn't believe how quick it was. Hers, apparently had always been slow to turn pages etc. compared to mine but she didn't realize until she had a look at mine. She reported the problem to Amazon and they immediately asked if she had a clip on case. Told her to take it off and see if that fixed the problems. It didn't so we had to ship it back to them and they arranged to ship her a replacement. Apparently the clip in covers have been associated with some short outs so this time I got her a cover with elastic corners and she is back to enjoying it.

Hope B & N offer to fix it. I must admit that Amazon was great about it. Normally since we are out of the U.S. they would have charged her credit card until the old Kindle was returned then credited the amount back but the girl she got on the phone arranged it with a faked up credit memo and she had the replacement very quickly.

We'll take it to B&N to see what they say. She didn't get the extended warranty so I don't know what they will say. The screen is damaged so that may not be covered.

I was glad I researched the cover I decided to get for my Kindle. I read about all the issues with the clip covers. In addition to the shorts, they also can crack the case and loosen over time so eventually the Kindle can fall out. I got an M-edge cover and I love it. It's light and folds back really easily. I don't even notice it's there but it keeps it clean and protected.

I have had my Kindle for over a year and I also bought an M-edge when I got it (in basic black). I have had no trouble with my kindle at all but apparently my daughter's Kindle was simply defective as it was always slow even before she installed the clip on cover. I got her an M-edge too for the replacement Kindle but in hot pink!
