A new first for me to chalk up... my first half-marathon! I ran it yesterday with my co-workers/runners, and I actually had a really fun time... a lot more fun than I had expected. It certainly was a rough morning, what with running late, getting pulled over by CHP, and almost missing the start... but once the race began, it wasn't as grueling as I had imagined it. So how did I do?
I ran it in 1:52:25 and placed 91st out of about 350-400 or so runners/walkers (which won me a cool wine glass). My only goal of the day was to run the entire length which I accomplished with the exception of two times I walked a few feet to drink some water, so I left satisfied. Although writing this the day after, I'm not nearly as sore as I thought I should be, leading me to think I could have pushed harder. But it was my first time so I had no clue what kinds of things my body was going to go through. But in all I had a total blast.
The run was followed up with drinks in Avila, and then unfortunately work.
So now I put myself at the crossroads. I'm seriously considering training for a full marathon. I figure now is the best time in my life when I could accomplish this, not to mention I'm already in the groove. It seems to be a shame to stop here. The San Francisco Marathon is August 3rd, which puts me nicely in the beginning of a 16 week training program. So why not? It's a pretty serious commitment. I'd have to be out on the roads more, meaning I'd have to wake up much earlier... go to sleep earlier, change my diet... probably not party as much (which i hardly ever do anyway). But then again, it's only for a couple months, and the benefits are pretty great. I mean c'mon, it's a Marathon!
So i'm in the air... I think I'm going to start training, and see how far I get. I can always change plans later on, but it doesn't hurt to be on track. If so, I gotta get to bed... I have to jog tomorrow.
