Body of Work, Part I: Fanfiction

Jan 18, 2009 23:23

As the new year rolls in, it gives us time to reflect on everything that we've done. Since I've been going all fic crazy and posting hugely long chapters in my EPIC story the Passion of Angels and Demons, writing my personal favorite human!AU Winter Song, and also my new Angel oneshot Flight, I've decided to create a guide to my Body of Work. The first part is fanfiction, all of which is currently archived on Fanfiction.net.

This is also a collection of my own notes and insights on these, so any of my bigger fans should really enjoy this.

Soon, hopefully, I shall be able to post these stories on my LiveJournal. Until now, that excellent site has given me my start, so I'll continue to use it as a homebase. The next update to this is the original fiction that I also work on. Always keep in mind that my fanfiction has unlimited options to be incorporated into my original fiction, so if one day I DO manage to get published don't be surprised if you recognize some of the source material!

Pfenix Goddess (a.k.a. Pyro Padawan) http://www.fanfiction.net/u/522372/PyroPadawan

Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel the Series

1. The Burden of Breathing -- This is a WIP at the moment, because I haven't gotten around to finishing it. The entire story is told from Faith's point of view, and it chronicles the events of the seminal season three episodes "Bad Girls" and "Consequences," as well as a before and an after prologue/epilogue. I WILL get back to working on this when I have some downtime because it's always a ride to walk through Faith's subconscious. http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3829204/1/The_Burden_of_Breathing

2. Flight -- This is a oneshot that I just published that takes place in the fifth (and sadly, final televised) season of Angel. It is set right at the end of "Power Play" after Angel hands Nina the tickets to get her to leave town before the last big apocalypse he has to fight. It's told through Nina's point of view and tells her feelings on leaving, on Angel, and on her final decision. http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4801725/1/Flight

3. Fire & Ice -- This is (for now) a complete story that's essentially a oneshot that was so long it had to be split into different chapters. It is an Alternate Universe retelling of the Buffy first season episode "Angel" whereas Angel rescued Xander instead of Buffy, making the romance between Xander and Angel. I actually quite enjoyed myself and I might do a couple of episodes like this (I've been considering a sequel that's a redux of "The Pack," especially). http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4725459/1/Fire_&_Ice

4. Winter Song -- This is a nearly completed human AU verse that I wrote for the Xangel Ficathlon started by Davinci_1935. In it, Xander is the son of an evangelical minister that is trying to raise Xander in his oppressive ways, but Xander is essentially an all-embracing type that optimistically maintains that God created everyone and therefore everyone is equal. Things begin to go crazy when Xander meets the mysterious and gorgeous Angel, and realizes that he's gay and falls in love for the first time in his life. http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4782750/1/Winter_Song

I'm actually very proud of this story. It's introspective and shows the dependance humans have on relationships with friends and family, and how faith can be the most powerful impact on your life, and how faith and love together can save you. I'm not a Christian but I think that God really touched this one, so I hope She likes it.

5. the Passion of Angels and Demons -- This is my most epic and ambitious project...well, ever. It is an AU Buffyverse fic that starts at the beginning of the season two episode "Passion" (in my opinion, the BEST (HANDS DOWN) episode of Buffy they ever did -- it was tense, action-packed, had humor, was moving, tragic, a little scary, a little horrifying, extraordinarily well-acted, and was a portrait of the very best of Buffy seasons one through three).

the Passion of Angels and Demons is the first part of a projected trilogy. In it, Xander is Claimed as Angelus' when Angelus finds out that Xander is his Cruor Aduro, a vampire myth telling of a human mystically bonded to the vampire, so that when the vampire drinks the blood of their Cruor Aduro their power increases tenfold and they conquer the Blood Thirst for up to a month. Things explode in apocalyptic fashion, however, when the Sunnydale crew realize that Xander is not what he seems, and the power in his blood may in fact hold the key to destroying mankind...forever. http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3288863/1/the_Passion_of_Angels_and_Demons

the Passion of Angels and Demons is my best effort. It is already 21 chapters long, more than 160,000 words long and still going strong. I have been working on it for literally more than two years now. I have more than 150 reviews on it and I've been favorited more times than I can count. I've been recommended on different websites and I've sweated and bled over it. I am more proud of this fiction that anything else I've ever done, and I can say without fail that I think it is the best of my efforts, with Winter Song coming in at a close second.

Charmed

1. Tears from the Moon -- This is a oneshot songfic that is set at the end of season four, right after "Long Live the Queen" and "Womb Raider" and right before "Witch Way Now?" It is written through Phoebe's point of view and is a portrait of her grief at what she had to go through with Cole and her baby. I think that the fifth season of Charmed was a real bitch slap to the face to all Phoebe/Cole fans, and I was disgusted at how little of the grieving process they showed. http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4382923/1/Tears_from_the_Moon

Anyone who's watched Buffy knows that the Phoebe/Cole storyline was a lot like the Buffy/Angel storyline -- the Romeo & Juliet thing appeals to vast audiences. But when Buffy killed Angel, she literally dropped her entire life and escaped to an unknown city to try and disappear just to get over it. Phoebe cried for the last minute of "Long Live the Queen" and then just seemed to kind of go, 'Well, okay, it's over now, let's get up and dance.' Seriously?

Harry Potter

1. Summer Sun -- This is the first in my "Summer" series, which may or may not be continued, I'm not sure yet. In any case, this is a oneshot Harry/Oliver slash story set in in between Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. It's a little fluffy, light reading, and it was actually a treat to write -- it let me give in to my blatant romantic side, and also use Hermione as a little comic relief. http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4463683/1/Summer_Sun

2. Summer Flare -- This was the unintended love child of Summer Sun and all the reviewers who wanted a sequel. This is told in Ron's point of view and deals with Ron's bout of homophobia, but it ends in fluff with Hermione making an overture toward Ron and telling him exactly what the meaning of love is. This actually had a lot more actual MEANING packed into it than I intended. http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4476002/1/Summer_Flare

NOTE: I'm not sure that the "Summer" series will continue, but it's still niggling at my brain, so watch out for updates in case you liked these!

Elektra

1. Elektra -- This is a prequel to the movie, essentially. It tells how Elektra was taken in by Stick and brought back to life, why she was expelled from the Chaste's training camp, and how she got caught up with the Hand and ultimately broke free to become an assassin. http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3504654/1/Elektra

NOTE: This is the first part of a projected trilogy. As of now this story has been in a standstill but I actually feel that it has enough potential to bring back to life, so it's still alive and kicking.

I actually really liked the move, it was just lacking two things: back story is one. They didn't explain things sufficiently and they needed more time explaining the Hand and the Chaste and how Elektra knows both. The other is gore. I'm sorry, but Elektra is the world's most dangerous assassin, and she has a lot of issues that need therapy. The comics feature guts, gore, self-loathing, sex, drug abuse, and language. This movie was WAY too PG-13 oriented. They needed to have a look at The Punisher and take a few clues.

The Den of Shadows Series (by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes)

1. What Do You Want to Do About It? -- This is set right after the second book in the series, Demon in my View. It's told through Jessica's perspective, and is pure unadulterated Aubrey/Jessica smut. I wrote porn and set it to a pairing that I really liked in a book that I really liked. It's recieved positive reviews, so what the hell do I know? http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3148477/1/What_Do_You_Want_To_Do_About_Itr

For those of you who don't know, Amelia Atwater-Rhodes wrote her first book, In the Forests of the Night, when she was 13. It's one of my favorites. She is an immensely talented author who puts out a novel once a year like clockwork. She's written five in the Den of Shadows books and five in her shapeshifter saga (the better of the two), the Kiesha'ra (she made an entire language for it). The shapeshifters live side by side with her vampires and witches, so I'll be looking very forward to the next novel she puts out in the amazing world she's created.

The Kiesha'ra Cycle (by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes)

1. Unknown and Unknowable -- I can't tell you exactly what it's about, because that would ruin the surprise pairing at the end, so you'll have to read the summary: You will always want what you just can't have, and this Serpiente is no exception. http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2588024/1/Unknown_and_Unknowable

Daughters of the Moon (by Lynne Ewing)

1. Moon Demon: Pandora Rising -- This is my first ever fanfiction, so I'm still proud of how well-liked it was. It's a fluffy, silly little smutlet set in the Daughters of the Moon universe right after novel number seven (you guessed it!) Moon Demon. It's a Vanessa/Michael pairing with a pretty funny ending, and it's pretty cute the whole way through. Enjoy! http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1863488/1/Moon_Demon_Pandora_Rising

Daughters of the Moon is actually a very good book series. It took Greek mythology and put it in today's world. The author took Selene and gave her mortal daughters, all powerful goddesses like their mother. They have to fight an ancient evil called the Atrox -- it's actually a surprisingly complex and original world that she's created. It's centered around five girls - Vanessa (who can turn invisible and fly), Serena (who is telepathic and therefore the Key who can tip the balance between good and evil), Jimena (the tough former gangbanger who has premonitions), Catty (the crazy/flighty/flirty girl who travels through time), and Tianna (the mysterious new Daughter with the most powerful gift -- telekinesis). It's 13 books long and definitely worth it, because they're all light, older teen reading. I reccomend them to any mythology or fantasy fan, even thought some might get fed up with the estrogen toward the end.

Alright, that's it for now. I haven't put any of my planned fics up here yet because that would ruin the surprise. Here's what's available right now. Tomorrow I'll post the original fiction. Thanks for taking the time, and I hope this helps any of my fans!

Sincerely, Pfenix Goddess.
