I hate people. Seriously. The vast majority seems to be either stupid, giggly girls who couldn't care less about the world at large, or dumb, ubermasculine jock retards who don't care about anything other than tits and looking in the mirror and flexing. Has our great society degraded so much that this is considered a norm for young people? What have we done or not done as a generation to stop the flow of stupidity?
Today I was in a supplementary course on US Government, and I was utterly astounded yet again at the number of idiots I'm stuck with. If I didn't need the credit, I'd drop the course. Today we actually attempted a serious discussion (a large undertaking in our class) and it was complete bullshit because idiots would not shut up and allow the people actually contributing to the discussion speak their minds. All they did was sit down and yell idiotic jokes and think that everyone was admiring them.
My friend, who we'll call Lilah for identity protection services, takes things very seriously. She actually came out of her shell enough today to contribute to the conversation when the topic changed to the death penalty, and all these idiots did was mock her opinions. And it was laughed at! How is this acceptable behavior? Have we lost all meaning of the word adult, or is it a failing of our parents? How is such callous humor as to laugh at a conversation about the death penalty, for Goddess' sake, socially acceptable? Must this be a world where anorexia and shallow beauty is expected in female youth, where not homosexuality but any form of sensitivity in a male is utterly unacceptable in this world that seems to only to cater to callow jocks who yell inappropriate comments at women and demand more beer?
Barack Obama claims that change is possible in America, but lately I've become discouraged to the point. People can't change unless they want to, and I don't think that they want to. They are comfortable in this world that encourages stupidity and shallowness and prejudice. The fact that we live in a world where Proposition 8 can become a serious political movement and then get passed into law is frightening to me. How can you justify prejudice and ignorance? How is this tolerated by us as a society today? How can we do anything other than fight it?
Yet that is what we are doing, every damn day. Ignoring. Spreading the hatred, so casually that we can't even recognize that it is indeed hatred that we are spreading. Maybe I grew up too soon, or maybe I was born into the wrong generation. All I can say is, I'll leave this entry off on a picture from Happy Bunny that should maybe be funny but actually isn't, because it's true.
Kids are the future. Frightened?
