A Life Update, and One Potential Hit with One Potential Miss

Apr 20, 2009 22:43

Hey, guys -- it's been a little while since I've given a good update, so here's a bit of situational for you. The first is school; I would be on the A-B honor roll save for Advanced French Language, which is keeping me down at a steady D-F, no matter how hard I seem to work on it. I'm dreading next year when I have to restart all those annoying math classes just to finish getting the first part of my degree. Sigh. In any case, I'm also involved in the drama production of Beauty and the Beast, which I would be much more optimistic about if we had a different drama director -- ours is a scatterbrained idiot who can't control a class and has no clue what she's doing. I'm sorry if that's harsh but I've nearly completely lost patience with her.

The really horrid thing, though, is my oldest sister. Right now we'll call her Beth. Here's the sitch -- Beth was pregnant and had no man, no job, and my father had finally turned her out because she refused to do anything to help herself other than try to steal his wallet. Thus, she spent about a month couch-surfing with all her frat buddies in CollegeTown that we still have no idea how she met. In walks Aaron (again, not his real name). He takes one look at her and apparently falls in love, because he took her back to his apartment and let her use his shower while he washed all her clothes and gave her some of his own to wear. Pretty classy, isn't it?

So, to give you more background, Beth is a compulsive liar and a kleptomaniac; I'm serious about thinking she has a major disorder because she CAN'T stop herself. I've seen her literally come up with five lies to cover the lie she was caught in ON THE SPOT with no help. She's that bad. On top of this, she's extremely lazy and can't be bothered to pick up after herself or take care of her child. So here, Aaron's this great guy who goes out and works a tough job while she sits at home and trashes his house and abuses his cable.

This goes on for some time, and he even moves her to BeachTown in order to get a better job. But all this wasn't enough for Beth, not by a long shot. So she goes out all the time and parties and drinks herself silly and fucks every guy she meets. But still, Aaron stuck with her and was a wonderful father for the baby that wasn't even his. We all love Aaron because he was so steady and did such a good job with Beth and the baby. In any case, Beth hit the wall when my older sister who's younger than Beth (we'll call her Jane) got married before Beth did.

Apparently, that was the LAST straw for Beth, because she dumped Aaron on his ass, ran off with some army guy and took the baby with her. Now she's left the only steady man who's ever taken good care of her to stay with some army brat. She also got married at some Justice of the Peace thing ONE WEEK before Jane's wedding, just to make sure that she got married before her little sister. The REAL kick in the teeth here is that Aaron WAS going to propose to her on her birthday and already had the ring. I feel SO BAD for that man! So now Beth's in Texas with our niece with a guy none of us have any idea whether or not we trust.

That's a little of the drama on my plate right now! So here's some fun stuff:

What I Got the Last Time I Was Online Shopping:
  1. Alias, Seasons 1, 2, and 3
  2. Fallen by Evanescence [Special Edition with "My Immortal" Band Version Bonus Track]
  3. Visual Audio Sensory Theater by VAST
  4. Poseidon and the Bitter Bug by Indigo Girls
  5. BareNaked by Jennifer Love Hewitt
  6. Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Tales of the Slayer, Volume 1
  7. Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Here be Monsters by Cameron Dokey
  8. Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel: Seven Crows by John C. Voight
  9. Angel: Bruja by Mel Odom
  10. Angel: The Longest Night, Vol. 1
It was pretty amazing, if I do say so myself. I was in FYE today and I managed to snag a copy of Vertical Horizon's excellent Everything You Want for only $4.99, and since it was 20% off if you bought two used items rather than one today, I also got the fourth season of Alias for only $20, and with my own store discount I essentially got the CD for free. It was pretty sweet, if I say so myself!

Now, for the swings:

Disappointingly, it's looking very much like Dollhouse won't be coming back for a second season, but then, who was really surprised? A SUCKY time slot on a SUCKY night next to a failing show? Oh yeah, that's going to be a success! In any case, it's also looking like Kings is going to fail as well. Why do I even WATCH television anymore?

So, for the miss:

X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE IS GOING TO SUCK! I don't care who disagrees with me. And I'll tell you the only reason I should have to tell real fans: the characters. Gambit is a huge fan favorite and sure to please! But he has NOTHING TO DO WITH WOLVERINE'S BACKSTORY. NOTHING! WHY IS HE IN THIS MOVIE? Another one? EMMA FROST! WOLVERIE DOESN'T EVEN MEET THIS WOMAN UNTIL THE DARK PHOENIX SAGA! And CYCLOPS! WHY THE HELL ARE ALL THESE RANDOM ASS PEOPLE IN THIS MOVIE? It had a lot of potential, but I'm sorry -- it's going to fail as epically as The Last Stand failed at portraying Dark Phoenix.

So, for the win!

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince! Were those trailers as much a surprise to you as they were to me? Because it seems to me that they'll FINALLY get one of the Harry Potter movies right; ever since Columbus left after the second movie, it's gone down the tubes. Prisoner of Azkaban was nightmarishly bad compared to the first two, and although Goblet of Fire was miles ahead of Azkaban, it still axed out enormously important plotlines and turned a 700+ page book into a two-hour mishmash of confusing action, really. Now that we have a new director on Order of the Phoenix (which was actually fairly good), it's FINALLY looking like they're going to get one installment nearly completely right. FINALLY.

There, now that I've posted this ridiculously long post! See you guys next time. And PRAY that you're family is nowhere near as bad as mine, because much as excitement sounds well and good on paper, in reality it SUCKS.

Much love!
