1. tomorrow is new carpet day. because of
flood.
2. I have over 30 bites (presumably mosquito) just from ankle to knee on one leg. ITCHY. I need pants made out of aloe vera right now. :/ My new house has a nice backyard with lots of plants, but evidently lots of bugs, too.
3.
Livejournal is dead, long live Livejournal. Not that anyone would notice, 'cause of course it's mostly women (=> talking amongst themselves). I guess people who would've been LJers use Tumblr now, although it's a different dynamic of course.
4. I saw True Grit today. It was enjoyable... doubt I would have been bothered with it if not for the main character though.
5. My phone seems to dying a little :( It has developed grey lines on the display that don't go away with restart or anything else I can think of.
It doesn't look good. Don't know if Optus will help me out or not.
6. Discovered I love this Cee Lo Green album (The Lady Killer) just this weekend, despite buying it several weeks ago. (The start of my buying digital!) I love the single "Fuck You" but I think I prefer the album without that track. Seems more cohesive. Infectious and feel-good. Maybe I should look up the Gnarls Barkley album.
The other albums I bought then are also all good!
* Holly Throsby, On Night - especially "We're good people but why don't we show it?" and "Some nights are long".
* Janelle Monae, The Archandroid - very ambitious, a little over-long, but lots of great tracks. Would love to see her live, and not just because she has BAMF style. She was supposed to come here in Feb for a music festival but cancelled. Boo.
* Kanye West, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy - not
a 10 in my book (I skip "Devil in a new dress"), but it's pretty fucking amazingly listenable. My fave track is still "Lost in the world". (If you do or don't like Kanye, I hope you've seen
this. LULZ.)
7. Holly Throsby is launching her new album on 25 March at
the Corner. I am there with bells on. Very very excited bells!
8. I found a new supermarket near my house! Elwood is very unlike most other Melbourne inner-city suburbs (well, it's not exactly inner city, but it's not that far out either). Usually there will be a clearly defined and heavily trafficked main shopping/dining strip. In Elwood there is no such thing, but three or more little random strips that you would never guess are there. They are nice surprises to come across. I found this latest one because I noticed there was a road sign saying "shopping centre" and I thought "hmm, that seems unlikely", but indeed it was the case. --if six shops count as a "centre". The supermarket is independent (so unusual, such funny brands to discover) and looks to be better than the Foodworks at the back (Ormond Rd shops). There is also a nice-looking "ultra local" little watering hole, and everuthing else looks unremarkable.
9. I am considering joining up with
Flexicar again. It is remarkably cheap ($15/month, including one hour per month, extra hours cost extra), and it looks like they have a car just a street or so away. Would be useful for acquiring furniture, trips to the hardware store, and maybe other things. I'm feeling a bit more keenly the lack of Car out here, and I don't want to be leaning on my housemate too much in that regard.
10. Stop raining plz, Melbourne!!
