Well, it's been awhile!

I just realized I've done a lot more private posts lately, rather than public.  (Reminder: posts that relate more directly to my personal life are "friends only" locked.  This means that if you're a friend and reading my blog, let me know and I'll friend you so you can keep in better contact with me!)  I better do a public post to update you on knitting!!!

The baptismal gown is a slow knit.  I'm knitting on US2 needles with fingering yarn over nearly 400 stitches.  Since it's all lace, I can't just zone out and knit.  It's not a very transportable project, so I only work on it when I have time and energy at home.  Yet, I have finished the second chart!!

And a bit more close-up:

I have gone and moved on from that chart.  I actually finished that chart several weeks ago.  Now I'm working on the longest part of the gown, and I'm actually half done with that, but no pictures on that today!

And now, I've set aside the gown to work on something for me.  Still a lace project, but this is easily memorized.  I had to get a new winter coat since I will be spending the very big belly portion of my pregnancy during the coldest months in Wisconsin.  The coat I had wasn't very fitted, but it zipped up from the bottom and was already a bit snug.  I settled on a peacoat that buttons, allowing me to unbutton when it gets too snug.  Unfortunately, it is a 100% wool coat, and I do have a sensitivity to certain wools, especially when it sits on my neck or chest.  I decided to knit myself a scarf to act as a barrier between the wool and skin.

I don't seem to have a problem with superwash wool.  The wool is either treated with a plastic resin to glue down the "scales" of the fiber, or the scales are stripped off.  Either way, it seems to do the trick!  Also, merino wools and wool blends with silk or bamboo do not irritate my skin.  Yet, I still do stupid things like buy 100% sheeps wool to wear against my skin!  I have since learned those yarns make excellent gifts to other people. :-)

So here is how far I am on the scarf.  Six repeats of the lace pattern are done.  I think it shows off the color variations of my yarn very well!  This is the souvenier yarn I got in San Diego when I was there in March for my sister's wedding.  It is a deeper green and I don't think the light versus dark is so stark of a difference, but that's what you get when you're using artificial light because it's foggy outside!
