Last week I was reminded that I had one of these things. I had really forgotten about it. So...time for an update.
Okay, so last time I talked I was still married (thank God!). Life was good.
Life is still good, but there are always bumps along the way.
Last January, on the 21st as a matter of fact, we had a huge house fire. It didn't start out huge, it started in our laundry room (the dryer) and in the 7 minutes it took the fire dept to arrive the fire spread from the laundry room to the living room to the kitchen, and even up into one of the bedrooms upstairs. I was home at the time, and luckily I was able to get our dog out, but we did lose Sammy, our cat. I had no idea of the extent of damage, and four hours later when I went and looked, I just burst into tears. It took them nearly 7 months to rebuild the house so we were living in a rented house in a nicer neighborhood, but it was half the size. We finally moved back into the parsonage in July (forfeiting our summer vacation to do so) and there's still little things here and there that need to be fixed/finished. I guess you could call it a work-in-progress.
Well, while we were renting, we got some very good news, towards the end of June I found out I was pregnant!! YAY!! So now I'm about 8 months along and ready to pop. I've been to labor and delivery four times now!! We are so excited. The sonographer said it will probably be a boy, so his name will be Aaron Kurt. However, if you look at the pics (I might post them here) the boy part is a little high up and it almost more resembles the umbilical cord. But hey, I'm not a sonographer so what do I know? I do know that it will be mighty funny if we have all this boy stuff (all the shower stuff had Aaron's name on it, and it was ALL BOY) and the baby ends up being a girl. I wanted a girl, but a boy is good, too. Healthy is what we've really been praying for! If it DOES pop out a girl, the plan was to name her Hannah Linda or Grace Linda, but that's mainly because my husband has this set way that he thinks we should name our kids. Biblical first name, family middle name. Well, he never stopped to consider what I wanted, and I finally sat down and explained to him that while traditions are nice, there might be something else I'd like to name them. I told him that ever since I had my son (10 years ago) I knew that when I had a girl I wanted to name her Emma Elizabeth. I just love that name, and Elizabeth, while not a family name, is a biblical name. I'm not sure how open he is to that if this baby pops out a girl...I think he still wants to name her Hannah or Grace. I guess that par for the course when you marry a pastor. Problem is, there are so many other Hannahs and Graces out there now. All the normal bible names are being taken. I do like Naomi, but hubby thinks it's too old school!!!
Anyway, Jake is doing well in school. He started basketball this year and he loves it. He gets some pretty decent court time in, and is one of the better players, albeit one of the younger ones. He is excited about a little baby brother, not so much about a baby sister. I hope I've finally got him to understand that the baby's not gonna pop out playing legos with him. :)
Our dog Baz is a big dog now. And we have a "new" kitty - her name is Lola Tonks. We got her from one of the rescue shelters. We were originally going to call her just Tonks, but when we first got her home, she was scared out of her mind, so we kept using Lola to try to help things along. We ended up decided to keep Lola as her name, and just use Tonks as her middle name. She is one of the rare kitties who comes when called, and we do believe she is picking up some habits from the dog, who just loves to chase her around. We've watched them unbeknownst to them and we've seen them be nice to each other. We think Baz thinks she is Lola's mommy. Yeah, yeah, pretty corny, but oh so cute!
So that's my update. I'm sure I'll have more to update soon, what with the baby coming and everything. Life is just happening.
