I went through a lot of emotional growth within the first week of the year, probably more than several previous years combined! I've figured out what to say to all the members of my immediate family and lots of friends, past and present, to basically fix various dysfunctional things that we've all just left lying around. So far, so good, I've been moving through my emotions TODO list at a good clip!
My New Year's resolution is to try dating. Not find a girlfriend, necessarily. I often have to clarify this when I explain it. After all, it takes two to tango! But I do feel it's a marked change from all previous years, where I'd put effort into everything in my life instead of this. It's interesting, too, I'm sure some of my old habits, e.g., living like a cardboard hobo, were to make this no-dating lifestyle pretty much my only reasonable choice. Just pure silliness, now that I've had time to reflect.
I also started using Windows 8.1. All I can say is: not terrible! As long as I'm in non-Metro mode, I appreciate the speed and the lightweightness of the UI. Aero was a bit too much, but Windows 8.1 feels like the right UI for the job. I also like how my new flat Dell keyboard clacks. It doesn't look like much, but it feels great. :) My only complaint is how the built-in Skype app requires a Microsoft sign-in. Thankfully, plain-old Skype still works if you download it as its own thing.
I currently have a 2 monitor, 2 PC setup and it's nice. I can keep an eye on Cookie Clicker (the browser game) in the background on one PC, and type stuff in the other! Cookie Clicker is also awesome, BTW. I've been playing it for nearly 2 months now and it's always on. It's a very strange game with a mechanic I rarely see, on the surface it's time consuming and demanding, but at the same time, you will make steady progress is you just leave it on in the background and do absolutely nothing. You can be as involved as you want to be! Shout outs to Connie for showing me Cookie Clicker.
I'm excited for this New Year. Something tells me it's going to be the best year yet!
