I generally have had a good experience at Papa John's, but today was kind of weird. I should have known something was up when I place my order, the guy taking it just gave off a weird vibe. Then when I got there, well after the 20 minutes I was told, I discovered that my pizzas were not only not ready, but they also needed to be made from scratch.
I proceeded to watch the cashier, who had taken my order, and the pizza maker argue back and forth for the /entire/ time I was waiting. Mostly low level bickering, but at one point the cashier thunks his wallet on the counter and challenges the other guy to take a look, to presumably prove he didn't take any money out of the register. I didn't know what was going on.
The heated aggression mixed with employees not knowing what they were doing plus the specter of dishonesty was enough to make me extremely uncomfortable while I sat there. The only other two people in the store kept giving the staff glances from time to time as the spectacle unfolded. I was glad I wasn't the only one there.
When my pizzas were finally ready, I learned the guy in the back had to give pizzas to the cashier, he could not directly give them to me (he would have gladly bypassed the cashier if it was within his power). Just to get out of there quicker, I pay the entire price of the pizza even though I had been told earlier it would be 1/2 off for the trouble. I suspect the cashier might have pocketed the difference. Finally, as he's handing me the pizzas, he half-whispers to me that he had my pizzas earlier, but then neglects to tell me what had happened to them. I leave uncomfortable and full of questions.
On the plus side, the pizzas were delicious. Worth the wait, as the saying goes. I may never go back, so I should enjoy the food while I can.
