Horses are tricky gifts. While their breeding may be exquisite and the pedigree may be investigated at some modest expense, what is in a horse's mind is not open to inspection. A gift-horse may well be conditioned to react poorly to a given stimulus, to fail you most spectacularly during your weekly ride through the forest.

An astute Serminian will promptly re-gift a gift-horse to an enemy, being sure to mention who the original supplier was.
