As previously noted, I'm going to start doing this on Mondays.

What are you reading/watching now?

Anne Carson, Eros the Bittersweet: the follow-up to Marguerite Yourcenar's The Crown and the Lyre in an impromptu graduate course I seem to have devised for myself. XD; There is also a link to be drawn between Carson's remarks on oral versus literate ( Read more... )

I've read enough Ruskin to make me not want to read more except in a sort of decadent 'hurts so bad so bad so bad' way, like Elsie Dinsmore.

I have to see English written down in order to meta-process it

I am the same way! A lot of the time I can't parse audio very well, which only reinforces the trend.

That book sounds interesting, I might pick it up. Curious, how did you come across this one?

The Anne Carson? She's been reviewed recently because she has a new book out, but I tend to find her poetry impenetrable, and it's a sort-of sequel to a previous book of hers, so I went looking for the older work and ended up with this one instead. It was "selected by the Modern Library as one of the 100 best nonfiction books of all time," which is a list I'd like to see by the way; and I'm always up for an exegesis of Sappho written by a woman.

Also, it's meant as a gift XD so I'll be sending this copy away.

This entry was really interesting.

I mean, not like your previous read/watch memes weren't, but some of them felt like homework. I think the move to Monday was a good idea.
