On the subject of Bahleetiongate I'll say only this: when the issue first cropped up on my flist (keelieinblack, IIRC) I thought, "Huh," and revised my interests list. Half an hour later it occurred to me to revise SSBB's, so I did that. Then I refreshed and found literally a dozen new panicky warning posts on my flist, including someone who'd posted to bangbangwhimper. At that point I knew I had to let everyone at bb_shousetsu know the mod was on top of the situation, so that's what I did. It was 1AM and I'd edited the interests so I didn't think SSBB was in any danger, but in Internet Time if you wait until business hours next morning to make a statement you've already dropped the ball. I'm hardly an experienced mod so if I could figure this out I'm not sure why the owners of LJ couldn't, unless they lack the purgatorial training re: actually taking part in an active online social community (fandom or otherwise). Which would be pretty sad, all things considered.
6A are apologizing abjectly and reinstating mistakenly purged journals, which is no more or less than what they should do. I don't feel they've breached my trust any more than I'd feel a restaurant breached my trust if my soup were cold or if there were a bug in it, because that's about the level of trust I had in LJ in the first place - I have an emotional attachment to (a group of) people using the service, not the service itself. If 6A really started to make life difficult for Fandom on a day-to-day basis (as opposed to isolated fuckups) Fandom will go elsewhere, but the giant amorphous inertial mass of the thing will not pick up and move out of principled determination when it runs mostly on the fuel of hedonism and lolz. The management knows this as well as anyone else.
