You know the economy is lousy when you get laid off from a VOLUNTEER job.
For 20 years I have anchored a live, bi-weekly radio show on
The Washington Ear, a nonprofit radio station that is an on-air reading service for listeners who are blind or have other disabilities that prevent them from reading print materials. This is a volunteer position, not a paid one. Today I received a phone call from the station. Money is so tight that we can no longer afford to broadcast our own programming, so all the on-air volunteers and several paid engineers are being let go.
Bummer.
