I chaperoned a field trip today. My son's class went to
Claude Moore Colonial Farm, a surprisingly bucolic setting right in the middle of Mclean, Virginia, close to the CIA headquarters at Langley. We made candles the colonial way, out of beeswax and tallow; watched wool carding and spinning; looked at tobacco drying in the tobacco barn; pounded corn for corn meal; and of course, met a lot of animal friends.
