Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of
A Daily Rhythm. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away. You don’t want to ruin the book for others.)
• Share the title and author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR (To-Be-Read) lists if they like your teasers!
And here is mine for this week:
Today's teaser is from I Am Nujood, Age 10 and Divorced, by Nujood Ali, with Delphine Minoui. This is the true story of Nujood Ali, a Yemeni girl who, at age 10, was forced to marry a man three times her age, and the courage she showed in finding a way out. In this scene, on page 68, it is the day after Nujood's wedding, and she is inconsolable, comparing it to a time when she was lost in a marketplace and felt just as alone - until a kindly vendor helped reunite her with her aunt. Unfortunately, she knows, this time there is no kindly vendor to rescue her.

"Gone were the magic of spices and the kindly looks of vendors who let children taste their still-warm doughnuts. My life was taking a new turn in this world of grown-ups, where dreams no longer had a place, faces became masks, and no one seemed to care about me."
