I attended a campaign speech by Hillary Rodham Clinton today in Old Town Alexandria. What a privilege to hear her speak! She was articulate and inspiring and all-around wonderful. I can't believe what fantastic photos I got of her. It's hard to choose only a few.
The Democratic presidential candidate and former Secretary of State, Senator, and First Lady spoke about achieving income equity, providing health care, creating common-sense gun policies, expanding Medicaid, making college affordable, providing paid family leave, reforming immigration laws, and more.
She shared the stage with Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe.
Clinton praised some important achievements of the current presidential administration, but she was quick to point out that she has her own priorities. She got big applause with this line: "I'm not running for President Obama's third term. I'm not even running for Bill Clinton's third term. I'm running for my own first term!"
Market Square was packed with enthusiastic supporters, and the beautiful, sunny, unseasonably warm October afternoon didn't hurt.
