Teaser Tuesdays (Jan. 20)
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers! Post it on your own blog, if you have one, and put a link in a comment to today's Teaser Tuesday on the
ShouldBeReading site.
My Teaser:
I finished reading this book last night, but I haven't started a new one yet, so my teaser is from the hauntingly imaginative young-adult fantasy novel (or magic realism, if you prefer), The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender, by Leslye Walton.
This teaser comes very early in the book, on page 5, as Ava describes the day of her own birth:
"It wasn't long before the devout gathered in the light from the hospital windows, carrying candles and singing hymns in praise and fear. All because when I was born, I opened my eyes, then unfolded the pair of speckled wings that wrapped around me like a feathery cocoon."
