Saturday Photo Hunt: STELLAR

Dec 04, 2012 20:16

Heck, I can't decide. I'm days late because I was too busy to think about it. And because I couldn't choose a photo from among several possibilities for this week's Saturday Photo Hunt theme, "Stellar." I still can't decide on one, and I'm too tired to concentrate on the decision. So I'm posting two. Both are human depictions of stars, and both are very different.

One is a view of the 100-foot electric star atop Mill Mountain, which overlooks downtown Roanoke, Virginia, the self-proclaimed Star City of the South. It's the largest man-made star in the world. At night, when it's lit up in different colors, it can be seen from 60 miles away. OK, so it's not very classy. But it's fun.

The other is a detail of a mosaic floor in Vatican City, in the Vatican Museums. it doesn't light up, and it can't be seen from 60 miles away. But like pretty much everything else in Italy, it's just so beautiful.
