MEME (FUCKING FINALLY)

I was tagged by
savemoony, like, twelve years ago, so now I has to give you my musics.

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now, shaping your summer. Post these instructions in your LJ along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they're listening to.

1. I Don't Mind (The Buzzcocks)
(I used to bet that you didn't care, but gambling never got me anywhere/Each time I used to feel so sure, something about you made me doubt you more.)

The perfect soundtrack to those strange relationships that you can never really get a handle on. And terribly, terribly catchy.

2. Green Shirt (Elvis Costello & The Attractions)
(Never said I was a stool pigeon, I never said I was a diplomat/Everybody is under suspicion but you don't wanna hear about that/'Cause you tease, and you flirt, and you shine all the buttons on your green shirt.)

I love the paranoia in this one, and Declan plays with language like an extremely gifted kitten with a piece of string.

3. Mad About the Boy (Marianne Faithfull)
(Lord knows I'm not a fool girl/I really shouldn't care/Lord knows I'm not a schoolgirl in the flurry of her first affair.)

That's your fault, that is,
karaokegal. I can't stop listening to it now.

4. Tell Mama (Etta James)
(You thought you'd found yourself a good girl/One to love you and give you the world/Now you find out that you've been misused/Come to me, honey, I'll do what you choose.)

I first heard this on a compilation CD of tracks that The Who listened to while on tour. It was a great mix, and I love this one - it makes me dance at the bus stop. Who could ask for more?

5. Carey (Joni Mitchell)
(Carey, get out your cane/And I'll put on my finest silver/We'll go to the Mermaid Cafe, have fun tonight/I said, oh, you're a mean old daddy but you're outta sight.)

I've been listening to Blue a lot lately, and this is one of the happier tracks. I love how self-contained it is, like a short story.

6. Fiesta (The Pogues)
(Y Costello, el Rey del America/Y suntuosa Cait O'Riordan/Nor vompere mis calliones/Los gritos fuera de las casas.)

Again, it's maddeningly catchy, and it instantly puts me in a party mood.

7. The KKK Took my Baby Away (The Ramones)
(She went away for the holidays/Said she was going to LA/She never got there, she never got there, she never got there/They say the KKK took my baby away.)

Don't you just hate it when that happens?

ETA: WTF? Formatting woes.

silliness, music
