i took this shot to show kim how people were missing out on the cool shots as they photographed their kids (on other ppl's lawns) with camera flashes.

srsly, i've never seen people go up onto other ppl's porches and lawns to get their picture taken with xmas lights. with flash so all it looks like is you being a creep and standing on somebody's porch since the flash overpowers the xmas lights.
this street in palo alto had xmas trees all along the street, and the street lamps were wrapped with red cellophane. they also had the city put up temporary "no parking" signs to keep the street unobstructed.
this place had a sign up saying that they were smug and have solar power and their electric bill was under $40. i forget the details, but i'm sure kim remembers.
