And so we set out on Monday for the outer reaches of the earth, searching for warm discharges of mineral rich, highly volatile, stinky water with which to soak our bodies in.
we paused in the great village of Esparto, Kim played on the swings and enjoyed the playground filled with recycled tire rubber (instead of, you know, sand or sawdust)
as co-pilot, it was my duty to inform Capt Kim of any sort of livestock that would be ideal for approach and cooing at. This was just north of Brooks, Ca, where there's a huge casino. This was in the field of an organic farm. The field was filled with melons of varying compositions; honeydew, cantelope, tuscan watermelon, etc. The sheeps and lambs were gnawing on some of the melons. The llama just sat and watched.
all the others ran away, but this one tiredly moseyed over to examine us. Please note existence of muttonchops:
I didn't really take any photos around the hotel. It was nice, I enjoyed it a lot. While indoors, time was mostly spent in the bedroom or the kitchen, so honestly, the idea to take photos didn't cross my mind. I made two dinners and to breakfasts for ourselves. Monday night, I made rigatoni with blackened chicken (not burnt, actually blackened on purpose), eggplant, spinach, and baby zucchini. Tuesday's dinner was pesto potato encrusted halibut filets with kale, broccoli, and edamame. Breakfast was country roasted potatoes and scrambled eggs and I enjoyed a gravlox and veggie bagel. I received many comments and compliments from the guests in the self-serve kitchen. People kept asking if I was a "master chef" and commenting "you must really like cooking!"
Note to self: next time, bring kosher salt, nonstick pan, personal knives, food processor, juicer, and toaster.
And yes, pizza is possible.
Tuesday, we rode our bicycles out into the wilderness. We stopped at the Wilbur Springs geyser. It wasn't active, so I told Kim to massage it to get it to spurt:
and she massaged it, happily.
I also braided her hair. I'm not so good at it though
Kim said "aren't you going to take a picture of the tub?" and I said "I will, I will," but secretly, I wasn't so impressed with it, all decked out with purposefully found and arranged objects
there are abandoned structures around the property
Tuesday evening we went back out for a ride and I stopped at the old springs to take pictures of the colors
there were these wormy salt pillars all building up and such
and there were shitloads of flies
all those specks are flies
I said "Kim! There are tons of fly larvae in the water! Come check them out!"
Her reply:
We visited the old geyser and it was bursting with warm life-giving fluids
The side of the geyser tower was looking photogenic. I wasn't too good with my focusing though. Sorry if this makes your eyes cross
Later, that evening, I took this photo of a resting Kim
The sky was so free from light pollution, it was insane
the end
now I'm going to go listen to some "Laugh Out Loud Comedy Jams Presented by the Sonoma County Chapter of Latino Peace Officers Association." No joke. That's what they're calling it, for the third year in a row.
They've got sombreros and balloons shaped like cacti on stage. the table tops have faux wash basin tubs with maracas. Their idea of "Latino Comedy Night" decorations kind of offends me.
