I got to volunteer again today! The little 5 month old Cocker Spaniel puppy named Chainy is still there. I can't believe it.
There were two 9 month old Lab/German Shepherd litermates named Oscar and Rocco. Their reason for surrender was "Responsibility is too much" (very common). Then... get this... the lady that surrendered them came and re-adopted one of them. I couldn't believe it. She took Rocco. They were so happy to see her. And then poor Oscar had to witness her taking his brother and leaving him there. He was crying. Poor puppy. Talk about heartbreaking. I can't believe they even let her take one of them back. Poor poor Oscar.
Then a little boy wanted to visit with the little 1 year old Min Pin mix named Zeke. Kids aren't supposed to visit without their parents. But he wasn't that little so I took the dog out and stayed with them outside. Then a couple came outside and saw Zeke, and they sounded interested in adopting so I let them visit. The little boy left after a little bit. Zeke was distracted by the other dogs and all the smells and stuff, so I offered to take him into a room for them to visit instead. So I did that. Then Patty (an employee) went looking around for Zeke. And she asked me if I knew where he was. So I said in a room. And she went and got him and took him to the front desk where the people that had him on hold were adopting him x.x Ahhh I'm so stupid. I shouldn't have let the kid visit alone. And I should have checked to make sure he was still available. What an idiot I am. I can't believe I didn't even look at the card. There was such a huge crowd of people around his kennel. I guess I wasn't thinking of anything but getting him out. Stupid stupid me.
You know what else I did? Let a family with kids visit with Chainy, only to find out they're not allowing her to go to a home with kids under 12 years. God am I stupid. I was so embarrassed... I decided I'd go stay with the cats the rest of the time. A lot of adult cats were adopted! And there was only one kitten, and he's still there. I couldn't believe it. It was great though! A couple people came in saying "I don't want a kitten. I was a big cat." Like wow. I was hoping someone would take Puddy, but nope. She's still there. Poor Puddy. Someone was visiting with Tyme, the little kitten, and she said something like "what would I do with you?" and a guy overheard and said "cook it." o.o What is with people?
I later found out that the couple that was interested in Zeke adopted Seska, a 6-7 year old Doberman Pinscher. So that's good.
