This is for a Dreamcasting/Recasting challenge at landofart (Go, go Team Steampunk!). There will be some **SPOILERS** involved if you are unfamiliar with the books involved.

Recasting :: The Queen of the Damned
The Forest of Hands & Teeth
For this I just cast Young Mary as sort of a *bonus* character.
Young Mary is played by Marina Lambrini Diamandis.
When we meet Mary, she's just living her life in this little village surrounded by fences to keep out the undead. She's told her whole life that the village is the last remaining bit of humanity left in the world, but Mary always dreams of more. She dreams of seeing the ocean and finding out what is on the other side of every hill. When she catches sight of a girl in a puffy vest from outside the fences, she knows that there's more to life than what the Sisterhood tells them. I wish we had gotten to see more of her development, but the second two books of the series jump ahead to when she's an adult. She's also only at the fringes of those stories.
The Dead-Tossed Waves & The Dark & Hollow Places
These two share the same characters with a few additions and subtractions here and there. This is the main point of my dreamcasting.
Gabry and Annah are both played by Mia Wasikowska.
Elias is played by Ryan Gosling.
Catcher is played by Kellan Lutz.
Gabry was raised by Mary in the safety of the village while Annah had been left to fend for herself along with Elias from a very, very early age. Gabry was raised in relative safety and Annah is badly scarred inside and out from her years trying to scrape out an existence. Gabry spent most of her life in ignorance of her sister, and Annah always knew what was missing and blamed herself for their separation.
Elias was from the same village as Gabry and Annah, and also blames himself for Gabry's loss. He joins up with the Recruiters to gain food/shelter for Annah, and then is with a group called the Soulers when he meets Gabry and Catcher. The Soulers believe that becoming Unconsecrated/Mudo is a form of resurrection/eternal life.
Catcher is Gabry's best friend's brother. She has a crush on him at the beginning of book 2. He gets bitten, but he never turns. He is one of the few people who are immune to the bite. He feels a bit feverish and the Unconsecrated/Mudo (zombies) look upon him as one of them. He fears interacting with Gabry (and then Annah), because he doesn't know if he is capable of passing the infection on to them. He is used by a group of corrupt soldiers in book #3 to forage for food and supplies in the overrun city. They hold Annah, Gabry and Elias over his head to make him obey them.
For this I recast The Queen of the Damned. I added Lestat's mother Gabrielle back in since she was in the book. I was displeased with the combo of the two books that became The Queen of the Damned. It would have been better served as two movies. Too much was lost and changed that it was a disservice to the characters AND the fans. /soapbox
played by Thandie Newton.
played by Christina Hendricks. Should have been a redhead and should not have been as old. She'd also play Mekare, because that was another thing missing from the movie. The backstory of the birth of vampires should have had screentime.
played by Claudia Black. She was Pandora, but I think she was miscast. Gabrielle is a great character.
played by Jason Behr. Because yes.
played by Karen Gillan. Jesse has red hair. That whole family has red hair. The end.
played by Francois Arnaud.
