Um, okay, so I'm not pretending to know much about The Phantom of Manhattan. All I know is based on other phans' reactions, most of which are along the lines of "HOLY FUCKING MONKEY SHIT MY EYES!" I know that the original author bashed Gaston Leroux, which is all I need to know, really. YOU DON'T FUCKING DO THAT, DUDE. And then he apparently proceeds to completely destroy every character. Which is all fine. I just don't have to read it.
But Andrew Lloyd Webber, the composer of the original musical, is now writing a sequel based on this fail of a book, which he is calling "Love Never Dies." From reports of the first act, I'm sure Erik (and Gaston Leroux) would be rolling over in their graves. UGH.
I'm not sure if all my details are accurate, or which ones are more from the musical: but basically, they all live in America? The Phantom is a carnival/freak show owner, who owns his weight in stocks? Christine has Erik's rapechild? Raoul is a drunken abuser? Erik has illicit relations with his creepy Lifesize Wedding Christine Doll? Dude, that doll is creepy enough without YOUR PERVERSION, SIR ANDREW.
The saddest thing is that I adore ALW. I think his music is brilliant, and that music was what got me into POTO in the first place. But... HONESTLY. WHAT ARE YOU THINKING, MAN???
FUCK YOU. YOU MADE ERIK A CREEPY RAPIST WHO LIKES TO DO THINGS TO DOLLS.
Webber is dead to me. Now I break out the original novel and give myself a good dosage of PURE AND TRUE homicidal, heartbreaking love.
