A Map Of Non-Monogamy

I think it is an awesome way to get started in all this mess :-) It is a shame that this chart is not to scale, though -- that would have been much more interesting. For example, I suspect that polyamory is actually pretty rare among all non-monogamous relationships, while DADT is very common. I think that the full chart of Exclusivity in Human Sexual Relationships would look something like this: a huge area of Monogamy, about half of which contains a huge area of Cheating, and then the chart above, but with Swinging, Casual Sex, DADT and Dating Around being much, much larger than Polyamory. Oh, yes, and Religious/Social Polygamy should also be a very large area. Damn, maybe I should try to make such a chart... but there really is not enough data, is there?

Danny and I are in the big purple area of Polyamorous Relationships, not intersecting with anything but Open Relationships.

"This is my wife, her boyfriend, my boyfriend, and our girlfriend. Her husband will be joining us later" -- that is us.

Important: currently, neither of us actually has another romantic relationship, but that sentence still best describes our relationship model. (Similarly, a monogamous person can be single at any time, but that doesn't change the fact that he is monogamous).

To find out more about polyamory from someone whose views of it are nearly 100% aligned with mine: http://www.xeromag.com/fvpoly.html by tacit (check out all the essays on the right), and then my memorable entries on polyamory (which are mostly by tacit , too :-)).
