OH MY, WHAT IF DUMBLEDORE MADE A HORCRUX BEFORE HE...YOU KNOW?!?!?! he did kill grindlewald, so his soul must've split after that. and what do you know, he happens to have the most PERFECT horcrux ever in his possesion: FAWKES. fawkes is completely loyal and trustworthy to dumbledore (unlike voldemort's nagini, ( Read more... )

I was thinking that too, the whole horcrux thing. and you bring up an interesting point about horcruxes. like marvolo gaunt's ring and the old diary, I guess the horcrux doesn't necessarily have to be completely annihilated to destroy the soul part. but since Fawkes is a phoenix and is essentially indestructible, how would one go about extracting the soul part? I mean, when it came to the other two, they were "destroyed" to the point that there was enough damage to make them, like... I don't know how to say it. not quite useless but just... damaged I guess is the best way to put it. so exactly what can be done to separate the soul from the object when the object can't ever really be destroyed or damaged?

not to mention the fact that [if that really is the case] Fawkes has probably been a horcrux for some time now. so if that part of Dumbledore's soul could be extracted, it would've happened one of the many times Fawkes had died and then been reborn since he became the horcrux, not some random time that just so happens to benefit the side of evil. right?

I'm not sure if that makes sense. it did for a while, but that could just be me.
