"Nothing really," he muttered, turning around to face her. Despite what he said, his eyebrows furrowed into a confused scowl, and he scratched his head.

"Did you know that Ishida and Inoue are dating? Isn't that weird?"

Rukia blinked and plopped down on the bed, hand still clutching her drawing.

"They've been dating for a while now, Ichigo. You really didn't know?"

"No, I didn't," he said shaking his head. He stood up and walked over to the window, opening it slightly to let in some fresh air.

"I guess I really did miss out on a lot while I was training," he said keeping his back to Rukia.

Rukia looked around the floor, eyes scanning for anywhere the red marker might show up.

"Well training is more important than knowing who's dating who," she shrugged. "And you can catch up now, can't you?"

"Yeah I guess," he mumbled, slowly turning around. "At least I hope I can." He stood in front of Rukia, awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck, not quite sure of what to say.

"Of course you can. It's not like there's anything exciting really happening," Rukia went on, unaware that Ichigo might be feeling awkward at all. "Well, apart from Mary-san taking the juiceboxes and Aizen getting a Livejournal, the bastard. But that's just recently. All you missed in the middle was just everyone trying to get me to keysmash. As if it's amusing or something."

She hmphed.

Ichigo chuckled at Rukia's pout but quickly recovered his stern fascade.

"So, um, speaking of missing out on stuff..." he trailed off non-commitally, eyes darting around the room nervously.

Rukia looked up at Ichigo's tone.

"What?" she raised her eyebrow.

"Uh, erm, I well, um, I just..." Ichigo stumbled, feeling a hundred times more self concsious knowing that he now had her full attention. He took a deep steadying breath and said "It's nothing, I guess I just was thinking about, um, you know, what we talked about before I left..."

"What we talked about?" Rukia looked puzzled for a moment. What exactly had they talked about? Then it dawned on her. Oh. Oh. Er. That. Her cheeks colored slightly. "What about it?"

"I was just wondering..." he blushed at the sight of her blush. "Do you...does all that stuff that we talked about still apply now? I mean, do you still..." he became uncomfortably aware of the sweatdrops forming at his temples. His gaze dropped to the floor. "Do you still feel...or have I been gone too long, or something..."

"I--well--I mean--" Rukia could feel her cheeks grow hotter. She, too, decided to stare at the floor, not wanting to look at Ichigo or anywhere near him. "I--er--"

They hadn't talked about...that since Ichigo had gone to Soul Society to bring her back, months ago. He had gone off to train soon after and then he was just so busy and--well. The situation had been left...just where it was that day in September. She had two months to think over the situation and the doubts that Ichigo had dispelled from her mind earlier had slowly had time to creep back in and take root again.

Especially now with...Aizen coming back and...the Arrancars...was it really wise for them to form a relationship beyond that of...partners?

"I remember what we talked about," Rukia said quietly, hesitating. "And...if you're still willing to...try with me, then I will try not to doubt it.

He felt his stomach clench at the hesitation in her voice. It seemed clear to Ichigo that despite how much he wanted to be with her, she still held reservations about their relationship. He wished now more than ever that he hadn't been gone for so long, maybe then she would have been able to see how serious he was about her. His confidence was shaken severly and his eyes were glued to the floor.

"Well," he finall spoke, "if you really don't want to...I don't want to, you know, force you into anything," he finished dejectedly, still staring at the floor.

Rukia looked at Ichigo. He was trying hard to avoid her gaze and his voice sounded slightly hurt, even though he was trying to cover it.

She felt her hands grow cold. She was doing it again. She was hesitating and doubting and hurting him and it would be just like the festival all over again if she didn't stop. She didn't think she could take feeling like that again.

"Idiot," Rukia said, after a pause. "Didn't I come back to the living world with you?"

"Yeah, that's true, but still..." he dared a glance up at her, and the soft expression on her face solidified his will and he plunged forward.

"So, does that mean that we're...you know, together? In that way..." The hint of a hopeful smile fluttered over his features.

"T-together?" Rukia stumbled over the word. It felt heavy. Like there was more to it than just the three syllables suggested. She wasn't sure whether she liked that. There seemed to be too much attached to that simple word. Could they be together? ...was it...allowed? "Would you like to be?"

Well that was an amazing answer.
