03: The Peter Diaries, Volume Two
April 03, 1978
I knew it - I'd hardly write in this journal. Well, I'm not the type that digs silent reflection, you know what I mean? And... I'm rather forgetful so I totally forgot about this and just remembered now.
It's been half a month since my birthday, and I was definitely surprised. The guys all gave me such great gifts. Sirius gave me this huge wheel of cheese (yum!) and promised I could ride on his shoulder while he chases Mrs. Norris. That is, me as a rat and he as a dog. Otherwise that would just be plain weird. James gave me this batch of rat cupcakes. They weren't made of rats, but they looked like rats, and they didn't taste like rats either. Remus gave me some cayenne pepper to ward off Mrs. Norris, and he warned me that it stings eyes. I learned that the hard way. He also drew me this AWESOME picture or me as a rat. He's BRILLIANT, I tell you.
Anyway, last Thursday was James' birthday and it was really fun. Sirius and I planned it all and all these guests arrived. Well, James IS rather popular, so that was rather expected. There was all this great food and snacks and spiked punch (which I couldn't touch - everyone knows how I am around alcohol). All that was missing was Remus. I wonder where he was then. I hope he's okay... the full moon isn't 'til the 23rd, so I don't see why he should be acting this strangely.
Mum says things at home have been fine. She sent me a box of cookies, but I don't know whether they're edible. They were... a light shade of green when they arrived, and I'm sure they're not supposed to be that way. Dad sent me an owl the other day with a late birthday present (a gift cheque for Honeydukes!). I can't blame him for being late, though. He says the ministry's getting rather frantic with Voldemort running around wreaking havoc and all. It's odd how this Voldemort person's getting all powerful. I hope he stays away from Hogwarts.
So... I've done all my Herbology extra credit and I'm getting started on that 12-foot long Transfiguration paper. I'm going to die before I finish it, I swear.
