Miles-blogging #7

Miles is now a little over five months old. This is another of those 'been here before' photos, where he looks ridiculously self-composed for such a young child. He's become very used to his dad taking photos of him; when I show him the picture on the back of the digital camera he comes in for a closer look and always smiles - he definitely recognises himself now, and in mirrors too. He's got an eye for the ladies as well - when he sees a face he likes his face lights up and he breathes faster.

Miles is now getting less interested in walking, which he's pretty much mastered with the help of a fun 'car seat' on wheels, although of course he still can't manage it unsupported. He's now finding it much more of challenge trying to crawl. It must be bloody difficult if you've never done it before, and he hasn't yet got the coordination.

Sprog's Masterclass: He now has a vocabulary of three distinct words: "a-ba", "a-bla" and "a-bwa". He hasn't told his parents yet what they mean, but he always says them when he's happy. Twice a day now he also likes to launch into fifteen-minute wordess stories which are wonderful to hear, full of highs and lows and occasional burps and very highly-pitched screams. And he loves to laugh, mostly when he's being tickled. He won't be making proper words for at least another six months, but I won't be surprised if he gets there sooner, or even later: Einstein was four years old before he started to speak.
